Adoption Policies & Fees
Please read the following information about
adopting a Burry Paws cat/kitten before applying.
ADOPTION FEES & WHAT IT COVERS
The Burry Paws adoption fee is $100 for a kitten or cat up to two years old, or $175 if you adopt a pair. Cats between two and 8 years old have a fee reduction of 50%, and we will waive the adoption fee for any cat over 8 years old.
All of our cats have already been:
Spayed or neutered
Vaccinated – with at least one FVRCP vaccination*
Treated for fleas
Dewormed
Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
Microchipped
Kittens do best when they have a friend! Burry Paws kittens are typically adopted as pairs. We adopt out single kittens only to homes that already have at least one cat. Our adoption fees do not cover the average cost of our rescues. We always provide any necessary medical care for the cats and kittens we take in, such as surgery for injuries or congenital problems, x-rays, blood panels, fecal tests, and treatment for upper respiratory infections and viruses. Donations above and beyond the adoption fee are greatly appreciated and help us continue to rescue the cats and kittens most in need.
Out of consideration for the time and energy of our adoptions team, we ask that you apply only when certain that you are ready and able to adopt.
Fill out the adoption form thoroughly. Incomplete forms will not be considered.
Adopters must be 21 years or older and present a valid ID.
Once you’ve adopted a new pet into your family, all veterinary expenses are your responsibility for the life of your pet.
All Burry Paws cats/kittens come with health records and are dewormed, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. We are proud to provide our adopters with educational materials, along with the kitten’s favorite toys and current food, which go home with them!
*If you adopt a kitten, depending on the kitten’s age, the FVRCP vaccine series may or may not be complete (as kitten vaccines are given 3–4 weeks apart up until the age of 16-20 weeks). If the vaccine series is not yet complete at the time of adoption, it will be the adopter’s responsibility to complete the series.
Our Adoption Process
To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, committed homes, we have a screening process before you can adopt a pet from Burry Paws. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary.
1. Submit Application
If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten listed on the Burry Paws website, please submit an application.
2. Interview
A foster caregiver will contact you within 72 hours to discuss your application.
3. Meet the Pet
If you are approved as a potential adopter, an arrangement will be made for you to meet the pet. Burry Paws is a volunteer-based organization which relies on foster caregivers to provide loving, stable homes to homeless cats and kittens, helping them become the best possible pets for their future forever families. We do not have a brick-and-mortar facility (yet); our foster pets reside in our volunteers’ homes and become a part of the family until a forever home is found.
4. Approve Application
5. Sign Adoption Contract
6. Pay Fee
The Burry Paws adoption fee is $100 for a kitten or cat up to two years old, or $175 if you adopt a pair.
7. Take the Pet Home
We are proud to provide our adopters with educational materials, health records, along with the kitten’s favorite toys!
Our Return Policy
If for any reason you wish or need to return a cat/kitten you have adopted from us, you can do so within two weeks for a full refund of the adoption fee.
After that, whether it has been months or years, if you need to give up your Burry Paws Kitten or Cat for any reason, we require that you must return him or her to Burry Paws Animal Rescue. We won’t be able to refund the adoption fee, but we will place him/her in a loving new home. We have this policy in place because we don’t want our feline friends to ever end up on the street or at a shelter again.
A Lifetime Commitment
Animals are for life. When you adopt an animal, it is a commitment you make to the animal, for the lifetime of that animal. We’re always here to answer questions and help solve problems. By adopting a kitten or cat from Burry Paws, you’re making a commitment to provide love, care, and medical treatment for the life of the animal, which can be up to 20 years. Adopting a cat or kitten is a serious commitment, but one that is incredibly rewarding.
If you are unable to make such a long-term commitment, we would be happy to have you become a foster parent instead. It’s a great way to make a difference in an animal’s life without taking on such a long-term commitment.
